Random Fashion Thoughts

There are a lot of great shoe boxes out there. This is one of them.

Pantone iPhone/iPad Cases

If you’ve worked in the fashion or graphic design world at some point you’ve come across Pantone colors/numbers. Case Scenario has linked up with Pantone and released these iPhone/iPad cases and I think they’re super fresh. I’m personally #teamblackberry, but I’m considering swooping an iPad for Christmas.

Ralph Lauren

Purple Fashion Magazine.

purple DIARY One of my favorites that I discovered while in Paris and this new one just came out. If you like Terry Richardson, fashion fashion fashion and learning about hipsters, artists and designers, buy it. It only comes out twice a year and it is hot stuff so get it while you can.

Grungy Gentleman

My old roommate from IU is now some what of a fashion mogul in NYC, he has started a website called Grungy Gentleman and it’s super dapper.  His mission statement is: Grungy Gentleman erases the stereotype that all gentleman have to be frumpy and grandpa-like. Grungy Gentleman injects a bit of youth and flair into your step; while still remaining sartorial. I think that’s a brilliant way to put it and I believe a lot of our readers can agree with that too. So I suggest all of you head over there and check it out. Click the pic to be directed to Grungy Gentleman.

Fashion’s Night Out.

Biggest fashion event of the year (other than fashion week). Thanks to Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenburg, the mayor of NY has agreed to such a glamorous event. Basically thousands of retail stores stay open until 11pm and have parties and sell merchandise, some of which is made just for the event. Shoppers go, celebrities go, designers go, so if you are in NY, go. If you aren’t, get a plane ticket now. Hotels are offering special packages just for the event. Click here to go to the official website for more details.

Bambi’s Bougie Crew Sketch Part One

From Left to Right: Myself, Brett, Nut, Chris, Mikey, BJ. When you aren’t checking out the Dope Couture Blog, the Dope Couture Facebook, or Dope Couture Twitter I urge you to venture out to Bambi’s Inspiration Blog Live From New York City. It’s a newer blog but she will undoubtedly be packing her blog with some cool content in no time. I especially urge you if you are a female as there are a lot of women that could use a dash of Bambi in their lives. Brittney “Bambi” Banks was our intern up until May. She was a great addition to the team. She is everything we like to surround ourselves with at Dope. She is creative, ambitious, fashionable, and fun to party with (yes that’s a trait lol). It has been a blessing to have been surrounded by such great people over the years. Bambi was definitely one of them and made an impact on all of us. You can also catch her right here on the Dope Blog. The post on her experience at Dope Couture can be read here.

Gentlemen’s Corner: A Gentleman’s Definition of “Respect”

gentlemans-corner-600w1

Gentlemen’s Corner is back.  Without further ado I would like to highlight the most important trait a gentleman possesses: respectfulness.  To me, respect can be broken up into three parts: punctuality, communication, and follow-through.  Before continuing, I want to make clear that being a gentleman means being respectful to not only your significant other but to everybody else you meet.

Punctuality:  It is always so important to be on time.  This means to arrive 15 minutes before the agreed time.  You are probably thinking that 15 minutes is ridiculously early and that she is probably going to be fashionably late anyways, but it is a huge way to show respect.  Showing respect is never having a person wait on you, rather you wait on them.  So, the rule of thumb is: 15 minutes early is on time and 5 minutes early is late.  Think about it.  What is the point of waiting on someone who has no respect for you and your busy schedule?  If you are thinking that women don’t have the right to be waited on, then you are wrong.  We have the babies so you can hold the door and wait a little every now and then.  I can’t believe that I have actually waited for guys for over an hour or even 30 minutes sometimes.  THAT is not happening anymore…

Communication:  If you are going to be late for some reason or another, call and let the person know when you plan on arriving so that they are not waiting and wondering.  Nobody wants to hear excuses as to why you were late anyways.  It makes you look like a big baby.  YES, it does. Picture this: you plan to meet your lady friend at a restaurant at 8pm and you decide to show up late.  Poor Nancy arrives on time but the restaurant is closed and it’s in a bad area of town.  NICE move.

Follow-Through:  Lastly and probably most importantly, if you say you are going to do something, do it.  If you can’t or probably won’t do it, then don’t’ say you will!  That is the worst possible thing you could do to yourself because it makes you look like an idiot and whomever it is you are jerking around is going to lose THEIR respect for YOU.

My men, if you can genuinely show respect to everyone around you in the ways listed previously, you are a true gentleman.  Go forth and conquer!

The Selby.

Cool video about The Selby.  Todd Selby is a portrait, interiors, and fashion photographer and illustrator. His project, The Selby, offers an insider’s view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artist’s eye for detail.  And, if you know about the famous store, Colette, in Paris, you will see how he moved into their window space during fashion week to create hype for his new book.  Check it out.
