Within the last 67 days of living in Chicago I’ve met people that I would take a bullet for, people I would take a secret to the grave for, and people I expect to be up there next to me if and when I ever get married. When I tell you some of the most solid people I have ever met are in the band Black Light Saints, I mean it.
I came to Chicago knowing only the lead singer Britton Wetherald from a DJ gig we had done together at his loft a few years back but quickly met the rest of the group: Alex Barandi, Ephraim Cuellar, Danny Lucero (my current roommate) and Fonz. You don’t have to take my word that these dudes are the truth, you can check them out for yourself. Britton and Ephraim are Thursday Night resident DJs at Evil Olive for Lets Get Weird and Danny Lucero and Fonz are also in Perfect Kiss, another local band getting booked nonstop. These dudes do it all.
So without further ado, the first exclusive BLACK LIGHT SAINTS release RESEARCH THE OBVIOUS
Black Light Saints – Research The Obvious by DopeCouture
Be sure to friend any/all of them on facebook and “Like” Black Light Saints to stay up with their upcoming shows including SXSW gig in Austin next week (RSVP HERE) .

Star Wars x Adidas x Daft Punk
This is amazing. Too many big names to mention but shoutout to DJ Armstrong spinning, as you remember he was the official DJ for the Dope Couture Jay-Z after party a few months ago, hope you didn’t miss that one! Check this and enjoy.Nemo’s Memories
Had the honor of rocking a set Sunday night in Indianapolis at Locals Only with an abundance of talent all brought to you by alpha.live and Rusty Redenbacher. One of the stars of the show that night was co-headliner Nemo backed by DJ WarrenPeace, both from Lexington Kentucky. As many already know, Kentucky has a plethora of unexplainable stereotypes for an area not typically known for hip hop music (minus Nappy Roots of course). Breaking away from all of that, Nemo gives us a great video titled Memories produced by Dylan Knight. Love the way this video was shot and definitely dig on Nemo’s style. Look for more from him on Vimeo and keep at him on twitter: @nemosoceanExclusive Interview: DJ Skeet Skeet And Donnis
Last Thursday night Bloomington was graced with another free show at the Vid with from Scion with a lineup including Bart B More, DJ Gina Turner, DJ Skeet Skeet and Donnis. I had the opportunity to sit down with Skeet & Donnis before the gig at Greeks Pizza and ask them the really tough questions, the questions that everyone’s been wanting to know, and the question that hopefully made everyone at the table feel socially awkward for at least 5-10 seconds. Let it be known that despite the tremendous amount of talent between these two dudes, they remain grounded and quite hilarious to kick it with. Big ups to them & DJ Gina Turner for stopping in to check out the store. Keep up with them @skeetonmytwitts & @DonnisXDonnis
PHNM: What have you guys been working on as far as colaborations and tours?
Donnis: I just got off tour with Kidz In The Hall and 88 Keys. As far as colaborations I’m working on the new mixtape. I just finished a mixtape in a week called The Invitation with DJ Infamous and Holiday that’s gonna come out June 1st. The big mixtape will come out June 22nd and we’re doing an EP that same day with OJ Da Juiceman, Estelle, as well as others. Should be dope, we put alotta work into it.
Skeet: I’ve been doing a lot of pop production. Me and Pete Wentz have been working on this pop-punk meets rap thing just for fun. I’m also remixing Fall Out Boy’s greatest hits as well as putting out a mix called Tight Jeans and Tall Tees. I also have this artist named Gumshoe its kinda Aaliah 2010 meets calypso stuff.
PHNM: What Do You guys have in your pants pockets.
Donnis: Money and Receipts
Skeet: Hotel Keys, Dope Couture Sticker, Wallet, and a phone
PHNM: As far as clothing who are you guys messing with right now?
Skeet: RVCA Rooka my sponsor has taken really good care of me and they make really cool shit. Micha in New York is also really cool about DJ and culture.
Donnis: For me I’m fucking with a lotta up and coming designers, this kid B. Scott outta LA is super dope. Of course I fuck with 10 Deep they’re my people. As well as new brands like United Taken and Public School they’re both super dope. I fuck with who fucks with me.
PHNM: Favorite City You’ve Played
Skeet: That’s a tough question, probably Sydney Austrailia. It’s always really fun.
Donnis: Probably Oslo Norway, the kids are soo amped up.
PHNM: Favorite Remix You’ve Been On Or Favorite Track You’ve Made
Skeet: I made this track like two weeks ago which is called Touch Down Celtics its like weird space disco. That new 3OH3 remix is cool because it’s Bmore and horns, they’re my boys.
Donnis: Probably this new recording going on the EP it’s called Dream Chaser. We got a good vibe on making that.
PHNM: Skeet As far you being an LA dude, Fat Burger or In-And-Out
Skeet: I guess In-And-Out. Fat Burger is cool too though, shout-out to E40.
PHNM: Coo Coo Roo Or El Poyo Loco
Skeet: Coo Coo Roo cause they have a crazy name.
PHNM: As far as the next big thing, what do you guys see in the music scene as breaking ground?
Skeet: Everything is so confused right now, it’s weird Jay-Z is at Grizzly Bear shows.
Donnis: Everything is mixing and crossing genres, it’s hard to say. My favorite Indie rock band right now is The XX. It’s very minimal what they do but it’s dope as fuck. I think it’s going to start coming down to people’s live shows and are they really artists and stars. I think that’s good cause right now there’s a lack of superstars like when we were growing up we got to see like Michael Jackson and Madonna. Now there isn’t really much so it’s always awesome seeing a Lady GaGa or somebody who is out there being super creative doing what they want, not always following trends.
PHNM: Who would you like to work with?
Skeet: I think it would be cool to do a tune with Joker from the UK, like a straight rap beat. Also, Donnis, I love that rapper from Atlanta, he’s awesome.
PHNM: Any closing words?
Donnis: Thuglife
Skeet: I just dropped my pizza on the table, and I ate the cheese off the table.
Muddy Swim Trunks
I’m going to preface this post by saying I Love College was Asher Roth’s worst track. I promise. Go listen to Greenhouse Effect! Asher Roth is back at it again trying to keep himself out of the one hit wonder club. It’s tough to say which tracks would get the love they deserve if radio wasn’t run by Justin Bieber fans, but I have to assume Lark On My Go Kart and Fuck The Money definitely deserved better shine than what they received. Regardless, here he is again, with another amazing beat and more rhymes about whatever. Dig this fresh video for Muddy Swim Trunks shot in one take.
