Meet The Crew: Randell aka LiL One

Let’s start with a basic one. Where are you from originally? I was born and raised in Chicago, IL (Cook County) until I turned 5, then my fam moved to Bloomington, IN and I’ve been here every since. So, I guess it’s safe to say I’m a Hoosier Boy. How did you get involved in Dope? I got involved with Dope by modeling for the Dope Tales line last spring/ summer (www.dopecouture.com/dopetales), then Matt gave me the opportunity to work at the boutique and it’s been history every since. What does Bougie Crew mean to you? The Bougie Crew is like my 2nd fam! Everyone that’s down with the Bougie Crew has genuine love for the clothing line, wants to see Dope do big things, and look at Dope more as a movement, instead of just another clothing line. Since you’re a rapper yourself, who would you say inspires you the most? It’s hard to narrow down what rappers inspire me because a lot rappers inspire me in different ways. Off the top of my head, I would have to say Outkast inspires me a lot. I’ve been a big fan of their music since I was a shorty and for me to witness them come from “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” to where they’re at now, that’s music history in the making. Twista inspires me as well. He’s from Chicago and how he put the Windy City on the map. I feel he’s one of those artist that’s a unknown legend in the game and is still relevant today! That alone shows me if you continue making good music you can have a long career. Who’s your 2011 XXL Freshman pick and why? My freshman pick would definitely have to include Cyhi Da Prynce! I like how he came out of nowhere and made a name for himself. When he dropped “Royal Flush” I got interested in who he was, because I saw he was signed to G.O.O.D. Music and I never heard of him. After I listened to that mixtape, I became a big fan. I also got to meet him when he came to Dope Couture for a meet and greet and he was cool as hell. What are your top 5 favorite streetwear brands or designers and why? Dope- No dope, no hope… enough said. BBC- I like how everything BBC is just fresh. You can wear a BCC outfit that doesn’t match and it’s still fly as hell. Take it from me, because I do it with mine all the time. Blvck Scale- I like how their images on the clothes show you why the brand is named Blvck Scale. Motivation- It’s something new and fresh to streetwear and the snapbacks are always on point. The Hundreds- My girl bought me the “Bebe’s Kids BLK Crewneck” and I’ve been rocking The Hundreds every since. Describe a memorable moment? It would have to be when me & my twin Dell got chased by these group of girls after opening up for Yung Joc & this girl fell trying to get to us. It wasn’t funny at the time, but it made me feel special knowing she was willing to bust her ass just to touch one of us. You had to be there to see it though. Describe your personal style. Very random. My style is something like a mood swing, because I’ll dress retro one day & wear nothing but polo the next. It just depends on how I feel. What would you buy if you were given $1000 to blow right now? If I were given a $1,000 right now, I would be figuring out a way to divide the money between studio time, clothes, & shoes to be honest.  Those three things are like heaven on earth to me. Real talk.
